The Best peach cobbler recipe is so good that you will be amazed just how fast and easy this peach cobbler comes together.

Are you expecting company soon or have had unexpected guests show up?  No worry, this really is an easy recipe and you will have dessert in no time.

My daughter loves peach cobbler.  And one day I knew she was coming over to visit her dear old mom.  I searched my cookbooks and even searched the internet and came across this recipe.  I found that I had all the ingredients on hand and got to work.  I had this wonderful cobbler ready within an hour and it was so easy and tasted great.

Cobbler or Pie

I had this debate with a former co-worker.  The typical pie has a top and bottom crust.  He stated his wife makes cobbler with a top and bottom crust.  “That’s a pie,” I told him.  He disagreed.  “It’s in an oblong pan so it’s a cobbler”.  Well, we continued to argue the topic.  I tried to explain that a cobbler is a fruit dessert that is cobbled together thus the name “cobbler”.  Eventually, we decided to agree to disagree.  But I stick to my opinion.  A pie has a top and bottom crust no matter what shaped pan it is baked in.  But…. according to wikepedia ,  Some cobbler recipes, especially in the American South, resemble a thick-crusted, deep-dish pie with both a top and bottom crust.

A cobbler can be made in many ways.  The most common way is a biscuit-type topping.

I usually make mine with a batter.  But I have made cobbler both ways.  It’s delicious no matter which way you make it! What I love about cobbler is that you can make it with just about any fruit.  But I have to admit that blueberry cobbler is my absolute favorite. This recipe is so versatile. You just substitute whatever fruit you want to use.

The Ingredients For the Best Peach Cobbler

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (21 ounce) can peach pie filling

With this recipe, you can easily exchange the pie filling for fresh, frozen, or canned peaches or any fruit/berries that you might have on hand.

The Directions For Making the Best Peach Cobbler

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter in a 9×13 inch pan and melt in the oven while it is preheating.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and baking powder. Stir in milk.
  • Remove pan of melted butter from oven. Pour the mixture into the pan, but do not stir.  Spread the pie filling onto the batter without stirring.  This step is difficult so I just drop the filling trying to cover the batter.  I do not try to attempt to spread the pie filling with a knife or spatula.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, until fruit, is bubbling and the batter is set and golden brown.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream. 🙂

If you don’t have ice cream, that is ok.  It is just as wonderful on its own. My husband loves ice cream so I always try to have some in the freezer.  As for myself, I prefer the cobbler on its own.  I am not much of an ice cream eater unless it is a rootbeer float. (love them)

Please Do Not Stir

As you are following the steps above please do not stir when adding batter to melted butter and when you are adding the fruit to the batter.  As the batter cooks it will come up around the fruit and the result is a cobbled effect.  If you want to make a peach cake then by all means stir as you go because that is what you are going to get, cake.
